Board -Certified Psychiatrist

Dr. Joy Patel, MD

  • Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship, USC

Dr. Joy Patel is a board-certified psychiatrist with specialized training in Child & Adolescent and Sports Psychiatry. His multicultural background gives him a deep appreciation for how culture, family, and environment shape identity and mental health, a perspective that shapes how he listens to and cares for every child and family he treats.

Dr. Patel believes children thrive when supported not just as individuals, but within the systems around them: family, school, and community. He's committed to evidence-based care for ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, OCD, anxiety, mood disorders, sleep difficulties, and the psychiatric manifestations of neurodevelopmental and neurological conditions, favoring behavioral strategies and therapy alongside medication whenever possible. Families consistently value his thoughtful, careful approach to tapering medications that aren't working and focus on educating families.

He earned his M.D. from Meharry Medical College, completed his general psychiatry residency at the University of Tennessee where he was hand selected as Chief Resident. He then completed fellowship training in Child & Adolescent and certification in Sports Psychiatry at the University of Southern California.

Beyond his clinical work with children, adolescents, adults, and athletes, Dr. Patel gives back to the community as a consultant to the Los Angeles Unified School District.
